The Gardening Club meets Last Wednesday of the Month at 7.30pm Parish Hall

Our spring show held in April was more successful than either Millie or I had dared to hope for!

Due to the very hot start this spring, most of the daffodils had finished blooming! However our members still managed to find enough to make a show, and, although the entries were lower than usual, Millie still had 258, plus the children's entries, so all was well.

Sheila Manley was the overall winner with the most points, joint runners-up being Jean Bryant and Cynthia Heyward. Others winners were Doreen Leat who also won the best club daffodil, and Eileen Hughes who won the Rose Bowl for the best exhibit in the show; Georgia Bere won the Children's Cup.

Congratulations to all the winners, but it would be really good to have more entries in the children's section.

MIllie deserves a really big thank you for organising the show with the help of many other members; those who helped to set up the show, do the refreshments, make and sell the cakes, also to Gerald and Audrey for again running the raffle.

At our March meeting Mary Bengur from Burrow Farm Gardens gave a wonderful talk on how she gradually developed these gardens over the years, with the help of her family; here slides were excellent. Paul Dunn came in April to talk about Clematis; he arrived with only flowering cuttings and talked about each in turn, without any slides! Excellent too.

At our Greenfly Market in May we raised about £500 a little less than usual, but it was not due to lack of plants. Everyone, including Sue Archer produced an amazing number of plants; thank you to all who made this day a success.

Have a wonderful summer, and I am still awaiting some help with watering the flowers in the village display. Thank you in advance to Lyn and Harry Richardson, who have offered to look after the boxes at the Parish Hall again this year, and to Mary Stanbury, Mollie Bullivant and Mary Woodall for their continued support.

Any enquiries relating to the gardening club should be addressed to the Chairman, Chris Kershaw on 01884 860208.
