Just a reminder that The Rest-a-While Day Centre is open six mornings a week from 10am to 12 noon. All are invited to drop in for a cup of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate. It is an ideal chance to catch up on the local news, and to meet and make new friends. Whether you live in the village, are a visitor, or are just passing through, you are assured of a warm and friendly welcome.

The Centre was opened in 1992 on a site previously occupied by garages, and before that cob and thatch cottages, and it was developed thanks to the efforts of a number of people. People have continued to give generously of their time, and all have helped to make Witheridge a better, friendlier place and helped give companionship to many, local and travellers passing through Witheridge.

Reading our Visitors book shows that people from all over the world have called, signed, appreciated and carried our goodwill worldwide.

Chairmans Report

I have my rule of ‘don’t mention individuals’ but all rules have to be broken. We have a good group where everyone plays their part but there are those whose contribution is exceptional - first Millie, and now Frank Housam.

As many of you know, Frank is leaving Witheridge in February. I believe the whole village owes Frank a huge vote of thanks and on behalf of everyone at the Rest-a-While, I would like to thank him for all he has done for many years. He will be greatly missed and very hard to replace. In fact it will probably take several people to do all Frank has done. In my 60 years experience in Witheridge, I can’t think of anyone who had given more.

Hopefully Frank will often find his way back to Witheridge. I’m trying to persuade him to buy a little car, so he could be here so often we wouldn’t know he had gone. Perhaps you could try to persuade him as well. Well done Frank. You leave the Rest-a-While in good condition. We now need someone to call at Bingo. If you can help please contact Peter 860207 or Val 860709.

The Rest-a-While is open to everyone, young and old, Monday to Saturday including Public Holidays, from 10am to 12noon and offers tea, coffee, orange squash, soup, biscuits and a chat. So, if you are new to the village or just want to get out a little more, why not call in? You will be made very welcome. Peter Tout.
