Grade 7 students have free access to all recreational and sports facilities in the Borough of Caerphilly County.

The council’s “Year 7 Active” initiative includes free access to swimming, gyms, lessons and racquet sports.

Paid by funding from Sport Wales, the program aims to increase physical activity levels for children at an age where dropout rates are high – according to the council.

In a statement to Caerphilly Observer, a spokesperson for the council said: “Children making the transition to adolescence are undergoing enormous physical, mental and emotional changes and inactivity decline rates are accelerating in the process. this age group.

“The inactivity that sets in during adolescence continues into adulthood. The initiative is focused on increasing levels of physical activity and reducing the dropout rate, but also on reinforcing new habits that will keep them active throughout their lives.

Forms for 7th grade students will be distributed in their school. Grade 7 students who live inside County Borough, but attend a comprehensive school in another area, can obtain a membership form from their local recreation center.
