COPPER Coast Sports and Recreation Centre, Kadina is hosting a Variety Activate Inclusive Sports Day on Thursday 9th June.
The free day is a fun way for people with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities to try out a range of activities.
“Variety Activate Inclusion Sports Days give children the chance to try out sports they might otherwise miss,” said a spokesperson for Disability Sports Australia.
“They are aimed at children aged 5 to 18 and are an ideal opportunity to try their hand in a fun and inclusive environment.
“Each day involves a range of sports to try, specialized training, adaptive equipment, showbags, access to community services and opportunities to network with other families and teachers.”
The days encourage and allow children to explore sports, the spokesperson said.
“Benefits of attending the day include the health benefits of physical activity, enhanced social well-being and friendships, improved balance, coordination and mobility skills, teamwork, collaboration and planning and increasing self-esteem through a sense of accomplishment,” the spokesperson said.
Copper Coast Sport and Leisure Center manager Giles Ellis said he was delighted to host such an event.
“The day will be hosted by One Culture who are trained in this field,” he said.
“It will be great for us to see what sports are popular and we can look to do more in the future.”
The session will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.
The seats are limited; for more information visit www.activateinclusion.com.au/events/activate-inclusion-sports-day-kadina-1.
