McComack: It takes a village – The Observer

They say it takes a village. And I know I’m not the only one who can really understand this. If you have been following our latest updates, you would have heard of the real support from our friends in the Saint Bernard room. I cannot express in words enough how much their support was appreciated during this recovery. Not only did they show up with board members the week following the storm to help serve meals and donate over 20 cases of water; in partnership with the Irene Campbell Foundation and the Saint-Bernard Community Center, they delivered a truck containing 80 boxes of non-perishable food to feed 80 families (out of four) for a week. As if this was not a great gesture of support, they also contacted us to return the funds raised to help us in our recovery. Sincere thanks to the Meraux Foundation, the Saint-Bernard Economic Development Foundation and the Saint-Bernard Chamber for their contributions.
I look forward to being able in the future to support our fellow Chambers who could experience what our communities have just done. Hurricanes are no stranger to Southeast Louisiana, but we’re hopeful we don’t get another too soon, right? But when it does, we’ll be there to help you in any way we can. Stay tuned for more information on how you can contribute to our region’s recovery and restoration efforts.

Our three parish governments have done an outstanding job keeping everyone up to date on the state of their parishes. Most importantly, communicate the resources needed to help get through the early consequences. Remember, our office still serves as a business recovery center where SBA is available to assist you Monday through Wednesday 9am to 5:30 pm. The SBA application deadline has been extended to November 29, 2021. Be sure to spread the word.
Finally, we are in the process of preparing for membership renewal. Renewals will be due January 31, 2022. If you have any questions or would like to discuss further how the chamber works on your behalf, please do not hesitate to contact me.
We appreciate each of you and are grateful to have you in our room family!
