The Elks hold an annual Flag Day Ceremony in Boonville Village Park

BOONVILLE – The weather was perfect Tuesday evening, June 14, for the annual Flag Day Ceremony conducted by Boonville Elks Lodge #2158 in Little Village Park.

The evening began with members of the Charles J. Love American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey VFW, and Tun Tavern Marine Corps League Posting of the Colors, followed by the singing of the national anthem by Kenzie Karpinski, co-valedictorian of the Adirondack Central School class of 2022.

The introductory ritual exercises were presented by the exalted ruler of the Elks of Boonville, John Doiron, and other officers of the Lodge. Lodge Chaplain Wendy Schultz led all in prayer and then the history of the flag of the United States was given by Ex-Sovereign Exalted Cathy Duncan and participating organizations.

Patriotic music was provided by brass quintet members Gretchen Schlict on trumpet, Kenzie Karpinski on trumpet, Heather Nunneker on French horn, Ryan O’Neil on trombone and Joe Sins on tuba. Duncan also gave the response and the patriotic speech, and led the whole thing in the Pledge of Allegiance. After Doiron’s closing remarks, Sue LeClar performed “Taps”.

After the ceremony, all attendees and attendees were treated to pulled pork sandwiches, apple chips and ice cream.

The Elks extended a special thank you to attendees, volunteers, helpers and all who supported their annual Flag Day Ceremony. They also thanked the Village Council for allowing them to use the Little Village Park Gazebo, the Elks House Committee for refreshments and Mercer’s Dairy for ice cream.
