Winchester Sport and Leisure Park to host sporting heroes at anniversary event

Excitement is building for the first anniversary of a sports and leisure park in Winchester, Hampshire. To mark the occasion, a free festive event will take place on Saturday May 21 and Sunday May 22.

Run by Everyone Active in partnership with Winchester City Council, Bar End-based Winchester Sport and Leisure Park will celebrate with an open weekend to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A Big Splash event, as well as several free activities, will be available for the enjoyment of the local community.

The local community is invited to join in the fun alongside former Olympian, Rebecca Adlington OBE, Commonwealth medalist and synchronized swimmer, Adele Carlsen, Olympian and London 2012 synchronized swimmer, Kate Skelton, British water polo goalkeeper Matt Holland and British record holder. and former freestyle Olympian Grant Turner.

During this fun event, visitors will have the opportunity to try; public road and family swimming, group fitness and cycling lessons, access to the gym, top rock, squash, martial arts, inflatable pool, bouncy castle, racquet sports and freestyle football, hosted by Jamie Knight.

The ‘Big Splash’ event, which will be by invitation only, will take place from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. This event will be attended by local school children. Participants will be able to dive and try out several aquatic activities such as synchronized swimming, a lifeguard rookie course and diving and sliding sessions.

All activities throughout the day will be free for all, however the team encourages visitors to make a small voluntary donation of £2 which will go to Everybody Active’s chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.

Alison Norman, Regional Contracts Manager at Everyone Active, said: “We are delighted to welcome the local community as well as brilliant former and current Olympians to our Big Splash event. We are celebrating one year since the opening of the new center and this is an apt way to celebrate.

“The center has played a pivotal role in helping the local community improve their health and well-being. It will be great to see local families benefit from all the fantastic facilities we offer.
